Detailed 5-Day Uganda Chimp Trekking & Wildlife Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Drive to Kibale Forest National Park
After breakfast, the journey to Kibale Forest National Park will commence, following a briefing by our company representative who will ensure everything needed for the trip is in place.
The drive to Kibale National Park lasts approximately 6-8 hours, with an en-route stopover for lunch and amazing views of landscapes, plantations, and bustling towns.
Kibale Forest National Park is home to over 13 unique primate species, vast plantations, and forest mammals such as forest elephants, hence dubbed Africa’s primate capital.
You will arrive and check-in at your lodge in the evening, spending some time refreshing and admiring the beauty before dinner and a restful night at the lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Swamp Encounter
Kickstart this day with a mouthwatering breakfast at the lodge, before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing, followed by an ultimate chimp trekking experience.
Chimpanzees, with over 98% human-like DNA, reside deep in Kibale Forest alongside several other primates such as white and black colobus monkeys, baboons, and grey-cheeked monkeys, some of which you may encounter or hear while tracking chimpanzees.
Trekking through the Kibale terrain can last about 1-5 hours, offering amazing sightings of birds and several other park residents.
Spend about an hour observing and photographing your cousins in their natural habitat, as they feed and play.
Afterwards, return to the lodge for lunch and then spend the rest of the evening exploring Bigodi Swamp; a rich Ramsar wetland in Uganda with a large collection of birds such as baboons.
Interact with some local residents before returning to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Crater Lakes Tour and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Night Game Drive
Start your day with a relaxed mood and Ugandan coffee. Check out of the lodge for a tour around Fort Portal (Uganda’s tourism city), spending about two hours visiting the different crater lakes and tea plantations.
Then proceed with a 2-3 hour drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, arriving for a late lunch and relaxation at the lodge.
At nightfall, enjoy an exciting night game drive, spotting animals that take advantage of the cover of darkness such as lions, hyenas, sitatunga antelope, and leopards, among others. After the activity, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Game Drive and Boat Cruise
Begin your morning with a rewarding 3-4 hour game drive in the vast Kasenyi region of Queen Elizabeth National Park, observing predators and prey roaming in search of water and food.
Expect encounters with a wide range of mammals, including elephants, waterbucks, topi, side-striped jackals, buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, bushbucks, Uganda kobs, and lions, as well as birds such as guineafowls, egrets, and Turacos, and primates such as baboons and unique plant species.
Enjoy a bush breakfast before returning to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, embark on an exciting 2-3 hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel.
With an expert guide, observe the various residents such as crocodiles, schools of hippos, aquatic birds, and mammals like elephants quenching their thirst along the shores.
Day 5: Departure
Start your day with a hearty breakfast early in the morning, then check out for a transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
En route, stop at the equator for lunch and witness experiments at the point where the Earth is divided between the northern and southern hemispheres.
