Uganda Wildlife Education Center – Conservation & Wildlife Experiences in Entebbe

In 1994, UWEC was established as a trust with the goal of reviving the closed Entebbe Zoo and leading efforts to teach Ugandans about the importance of protecting the country’s biodiversity.

The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) is located along the Entebbe shoreline. Recently, we started helping to promote some of their special activities, which can be booked through our website.

UWEC is involved in several conservation projects in Uganda, including rescuing and rehabilitating animals, providing full veterinary hospital services, and breeding endangered local species in captivity.

Beyond these responsibilities, UWEC also supports scientific research and is committed to creating public education programs that encourage open discussions and involve young people.

Many volunteer, internship, and conservation education programs are available both on-site and off-site for Ugandans and visitors. Some of the popular programs include:

Chimpanzee Close-Up

Chimpanzee Close-Up

Chimpanzees, which are found only in African forests, are losing their habitat as human populations grow and spread into woodlands. Uganda has about 5,000 chimpanzees, but their numbers are decreasing due to human activity.

UWEC gives visitors a unique opportunity to have direct contact with these amazing animals. The experience includes spending time with younger chimpanzees in a natural forest setting.

Watch in amazement as they interact, eager to learn more about their guests. They may cling to you, climb on you, or even use their human-like hands to touch your face.

This experience not only allows you to connect with man’s closest relative, but it also raises awareness about the dangers chimpanzees face in the wild and helps UWEC continue its conservation efforts.

Behind-the-Scenes Experience

If seeing animals through a fence is not enough for you, this tour is perfect. Get a firsthand look at how keepers feed lions, conduct health checkups, and return the animals to their holding areas.

Enjoy special access to exhibits, the pharmacy, food preparation areas, and much more. This tour offers an unforgettable way to experience the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre.

Keeper for a Day

There is no better way to bond with a rhino than by offering it breakfast!

Start your morning by helping UWEC keepers in the kitchen prepare food, then ride on a tractor between exhibits to help feed rare and endangered species, including giraffes, lions, and birds.

Join keeper briefings, take part in animal behavior recording, and even assist with health checks or the rehabilitation of rescued animals.

This behind-the-scenes experience gives you a chance to see what it takes to care for these animals.

It might be the most rewarding and memorable workday you have ever had! Be sure to check the list of required vaccinations and health guidelines before participating.
