Uganda Visa and Entry Requirements – If you plan to travel to Uganda for work or tourism, you must have a valid visa.
When completing your visa application, clearly state your arrival date based on your flight schedule and the duration of your stay in the country. It is recommended that you apply for your visa well in advance of your trip.
How to Apply for a Uganda Visa
You can apply for a Ugandan visa in the following ways:
- Apply online for an E-visa by visiting https://visas.immigration.go.ug
- If needed, apply online for an East African Tourist Visa, which allows multiple entries into Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda to explore all three countries.
- Visit the Ugandan Embassy in your country and submit your visa application in person.
Your passport must be valid for at least eight months from the date of arrival in Uganda. Travelers must also have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter the country.
Certain nationalities do not require a visa to enter Uganda. To check if your country is eligible, visit the Ugandan Immigration website or consult with our safari agent.
Since visa regulations may change, it is always best to confirm with officials before your trip.
Countries Exempt from Visa Requirements
If your country has a bilateral agreement with Uganda, you may not need a visa to visit.
The following countries are exempt: Angola, Barbados, Belize, Burundi, Botswana, Comoros, Cyprus, Eritrea, Fiji, Gambia, Grenada, Ghana, Italy (only for those with a valid diplomatic passport), Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Libya, Mauritius, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, St. Vincent and Grenadines, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Applying for a Visa at the Ugandan Consulate
To apply for a visa, contact the Ugandan Consulate in your country and provide the required documents.
Processing times:
- Online or in-person applications: 3 to 5 working days
- Mail applications: 2 to 3 weeks
Since officials may be handling diplomatic and state applications, it is recommended that you apply well in advance of your planned travel dates.
Changing Visa Class
The Ugandan Consulate issues different types of visas. If you need to change your visa class, you must apply at the Ugandan Immigration Directorate while your current visa is still valid.
However, some visa categories, such as group tourist visas, cannot be changed. The visa document will indicate whether your entry permit can be changed.
Entry Health Requirements
To enter Uganda, travelers must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate.
When planning your safari, consider taking necessary medications and booster shots to protect against diseases. For detailed health guidelines, check the CDC Uganda or FIT for Uganda Travel sections.
Bring all prescription medications from your home country. Also, consult your doctor about taking malaria prophylaxis before, during, and after your trip to ensure proper protection.
