Most countries, including Uganda, have strict laws regarding drones. To regulate drone use in Uganda, a set of laws and guidelines has been put in place.
Anyone planning to operate a drone in Uganda must follow the regulations listed below.
Drone Laws in Uganda
Below are some of the drone rules and regulations that you ought to follow.
- Do not fly in designated no-fly zones or within five miles (eight kilometers) of an airport.
- Keep the drone in your direct line of sight.
- Do not fly higher than 400 feet (122 meters).
- Fly only during daylight hours, shortly after sunset, or just before sunrise when the sun is about six degrees below the horizon, and there is enough light for normal outdoor activities on clear days.
- Do not fly faster than 100 mph (160 km/h). Manned aircraft always have the right of way.
- Do not fly directly over people, especially if they are not part of your photo session.
- Do not fly a drone from a moving car unless you are in a sparsely populated area.
These rules are clear and easy to follow. However, if you do not follow Uganda’s drone regulations, your drone will be seized, and you may be imprisoned.
Even if you disagree with the rules, we strongly advise you to follow them.
