The Batwa Pygmies can be visited in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Ichuya Forest, Lake Mutanda, Lake Bunyonyi, Kabale, and Kisoro.
One of the best activities after gorilla trekking is a Batwa cultural tour, where a Batwa guide leads visitors through the traditional forest life of the Batwa people in Bwindi Forest, which has been their home for centuries.
Visitors can also enjoy traditional dances and take part in Stone Age activities, such as making fire using traditional methods.
Batwa in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
Located in southern Uganda, near the border with Congo, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is one of only two national parks in Uganda where visitors can trek to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
Bwindi is known as the best place for gorilla trekking because it is home to more than half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Forest National Park takes place in different sectors, including Rushaga, Buhoma, Ruhija, and Nkuringo.
Each gorilla family in Bwindi is led by a dominant Silverback, who protects and controls the group.
Visitors must have a gorilla permit that allows them to trek on a specific day. Since only eight people are allowed to trek with each gorilla family per day, the number of permits is limited.
Batwa in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located in Kisoro District, southwestern Uganda, in East Africa. It is part of the Virunga volcanic mountain range, which stretches across Rwanda, Congo, and Uganda.
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is known for mountain gorilla safaris. It is bordered by Bwindi Forest National Park in Uganda, Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. Mgahinga is also Uganda’s smallest national park.
The park includes three volcanoes: Mount Gahinga, Mount Sabyinyo and Mount Muhabura.
These volcanoes are part of the Virunga Mountains Conservation Area.
The park is home to endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. The forest is made up of lowland equatorial evergreen forest, tropical seasonal forest, montane rainforest, and mountain bamboo.
