Detailed 7-Day Bwindi Gorilla Trekking & Maasai Mara Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Uganda and Optional Activities
Prepare for the adventure of a lifetime. Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be transferred to a beautiful hotel in Kampala, located on the outskirts of the city to avoid noise. Check-in and enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.
Day 2: Drive to the Phenomenal Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in South-western Uganda
After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, check-out and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in a private and comfortable vehicle. Located about 540 kilometers / 8-9 hours’ drive away, Bwindi Impenetrable is a stunning gorilla trekking destination in the southwest part of the country. Upon arrival, spend the evening at leisure, with lunch en-route.
Day 3: Trekking Mountain Gorillas and Batwa Cultural Experience
Today, venture into the impenetrable Bwindi Forest to search for mountain gorillas. Start with breakfast and gather at the Park Headquarters for a briefing on trekking mountain gorillas’ dos and don’ts.
You can hire a porter (at your own expense) and follow the guide who will provide insights into the park’s history, wildlife, and birds before finding the mountain gorillas.
After spending an hour with the gorillas, return to the lodge for relaxation and a late lunch. In the evening, take a leisurely walk through Batwa communities.
Watch them perform cultural dances, make bamboo cups, demonstrate hunting skills, and more.
Day 4: Road Transfer Back to Entebbe
Depart from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and return to Entebbe Town. This 8-9 hour journey includes lunch en-route and several stops for stretching, photography, and buying souvenirs. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel and check-in. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure.
Day 5: Flight from Entebbe International Airport to Nairobi City or Masai Mara National Reserve
Enjoy breakfast and take a direct flight to Masai Mara National Reserve or Nairobi City, then continue to Masai Mara National Reserve by road.
Upon arrival, embark on a game drive through its vast plains, spotting elephants, cheetahs, buffaloes, black rhinos, wildebeests, warthogs, yellow baboons, gazelles, leopards, bushbucks, lions, Defassa waterbucks, impalas, and more.
Drive towards Talek or Mara Rivers, where you might witness migrating wildebeests accompanied by Thompson’s gazelles, impalas, and zebras.
This phenomenon is common from July to October, particularly during river crossings. Enjoy a hot meal and a cold bath at the booked camp or lodge.
Day 6: Full Day Masai Mara Excursion
The full-day excursion includes exploring Masai Mara National Reserve through a hot air balloon safari (weather permitting) or walking safari, observing various animals and birds that call this park home.
Expect to see wildebeests, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, hippos, buffaloes, warthogs, elephants, zebras, and impalas.
Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, embark on a game drive to observe more animals and birds in Masai Mara.
Day 7: Half Day Game Drive then Connect to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
Breakfast will be served at the lodge, followed by a final game drive while exiting Masai Mara National Reserve.
