Detailed 15-Day Uganda Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Road trip to Murchison Falls National Park, Rhino tracking en route
Have breakfast early morning and receive a warm welcome and briefing from a Uganda safari guide about the 15 days Uganda Rwanda gorillas & Kenya great migration. Afterward, drive 5-6 hours to Murchison Falls National Park (MFNP).
En route to Murchison Falls along the Kampala-Gulu highway, visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a 2-hour rhino tracking experience, then drive to have lunch at a hotel in Masindi.
Access Murchison Falls NP via Kichumbanyobo Gate in the south.
Day 2: Activities: Game drive & boat cruise
After an early breakfast, enjoy a game drive in Murchison Falls NP for 2-3 hours.
Explore the northern region of Murchison Falls National Park, observing African bush elephants, Cape buffaloes, lions, giraffes, warthogs, birds, leopards, and antelopes.
Return from the savanna plains, have lunch, and relax until the afternoon activities—boat cruise to see hippos, crocodiles, birds; and hike to the top of the falls for 45 minutes.
Day 4: Road trip to Kibale National Park – Western Uganda
The journey from Murchison Falls NP to Kibale Forest takes about 7 to 8 hours. Have an early breakfast and depart for Kibale National Park, an iconic destination included in the 15 days Uganda Rwanda gorillas & Kenya great migration package.
Stop for lunch en route in Fort Portal, then check into your lodge near Kibale forest.
Day 5: Chimp Tracking
Have an early breakfast and attend a briefing about chimp trekking rules at Kanyanchu ranger station. At 8:00 am, begin the trek to search for chimpanzees, lasting 2-4 hours including 1 hour of photography and close interaction with chimps.
After exiting Kibale Forest, known for its 13 primate species including 1,500 chimpanzees, have lunch and visit Bigodi Wetland/Sanctuary for nature walks, spotting a diversity of birds like the Great Blue Turacos.
Day 6: 3 hours’ drive from Queen Elizabeth NP from Kibale & afternoon boat cruise
Drive 3 hours to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the Fort Portal-Kasese highway. Start the day with an early breakfast in Kibale, check out of the lodge, and meet your guide for a transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Take a 2-3 hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, exploring this 40 km stretch connecting Lake Edward & Lake George. Observe crocodiles, hippos, and birds along the riverbanks.
Day 7: Game drive & transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Day 7 of the 15 days Uganda Rwanda gorillas & Kenya great migration begins with breakfast. Leave the lodge for a morning game drive in Kasenyi, spotting elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, antelopes, lions, and leopards.
Return for an early lunch, then drive to Ishasha for views of tree-climbing lions before checking into accommodations at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to over 20 habituated gorilla groups and about 459 individual mountain gorillas.
Day 8: Gorilla trekking & Batwa community tours
Dedicate Day 8 to gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Enjoy an early breakfast, settle in Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga & Nkuringo as guided by your gorilla permit, and get briefed about regulations for gorilla tracking.
Leave the briefing point with packed lunch and plenty of drinking water, trek for 2-4 hours including 1 hour with a habituated group. Return to the park offices to receive your gorilla trekking certificate before returning to your accommodation.
Day 9: Bwindi to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, 3-4 hours
Day 9 involves transferring to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda, a 3-4 hour drive. Cross through Katuna or Chanika border, then head to the Ruhengeri region.
Day 10: Gorilla trekking in Rwanda & Iby’Iwacu village tour/visit
Day 10 includes tracking mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda for 2-4 hours including 1 hour with a habituated family.
Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park has 13 groups of mountain gorillas available for tracking, with today’s opportunity for only one. After lunch, choose to visit Gorilla Guardians Village (optional) or drive to Kigali Capital.
Day 11: Fly to Nairobi from Kigali Airport, drive to Masai Mara – 5 hours
Enjoy breakfast and catch an early flight from Kigali Airport to Nairobi. Continue from Nairobi airport using a 4WD vehicle to reach Masai Mara National Reserve.
Day 12: Full-day in Masai Mara
Spend the entire day in Masai Mara National Reserve. Begin after breakfast at your lodging in Mara Reserve, Narok County, southwestern Kenya.
Today’s expected experiences range from the Great Migration, Big Game viewing, Bird watching, and picnic lunch along the Mara Riverbanks.
Day 13: Game drive & hot air balloon
Have an early breakfast and embark on an early morning game/wildlife viewing in Masai Mara, spotting species such as lions, buffaloes, and giraffes.
Other activities include visiting the Maasai people and enjoying an adventurous hot air balloon ride at sunset.
Day 14: Morning game drive & return to Nairobi
Start Day 14 with a morning game drive in Masai Mara Reserve. Wake early for a morning game drive before heading back to Nairobi, where you will be dropped at your hotel.
Day 15: Departure
Rise early for a drive to the airport in Kenya to catch your flight home, marking the end of the 15 Days African Primates, Wildlife Viewing & Leisure Safari.
