Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park

Our tour guide will pick you up from Kigali very early in the morning and transfer you to Akagera National Park. When you reach, you will check in to your lodge, relax, have lunch and head for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema.

Lake Ihema is apparently one of the best spots to see wildlife in Rwanda. You will get to see so many species of birds, crocodiles, hippopotamuses and many more animals drinking water at the shores of the lake.

Overnight at Akagera Game Drive for luxury or Ruzizi Tented Lodge for comfortable stay.

Driving Time: 2 Hours

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive

This day you carry out two game drives; one in the morning and another in the evening. You will drive till the northern sector of Akagera, an area known for its vast concentration of wildlife. You will get to seem animals like Elephants, Lions, Buffaloes, Giraffes and more. On a lucky day, you can meet all the big five game animals.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Wake up early and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. This is one of the most scenic drives you will ever encounter in Rwanda. As you drive, you will visit the former presidential palace and the Butare Museum. You will reach Nyungwe Forest late afternoon or evening depending on how fast your guide drives.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk

Wake very early in the morning and head to locate Chimpanzees before they rise. These primates move very fast when awake and can be quite hard to locate. Your best chance is to locate them before they rise, spend time around them and retreat from the activity.

Your afternoon will be filled with a very unique experience that can only be experienced in Rwanda in the entire East African region. This is the canopy walk. You will get a bird’s eye view of the forest, get to see birds up close, see chimps and monkeys as well and more.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Kivu

This day you will transfer to Lake Kivu and relax at the beaches. In the afternoon, you will take on a boat ride to the coffee island, explore the island and learn so much about its history. This island is a perfect spot to see the world’s most dangerous active volcano mountain – Mountain Nyiragongo. Retreat from this activity and return to your lodge.

Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze

This day you transfer to Volcanoes National Park – The home of Rwanda gorillas. In the afternoon you will visit Dian Fossey’s grave at Karisoke Research Center.  This lady is one of the greatest pioneers of mountain gorilla conservation in Africa. She is the reason mountain gorillas still exist till date. She was buried at her research center.

Day 7: Mountain Gorilla Trekking

This day you bond with gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. You have to wake up very early and be at the park headquarters by 7:00 am (EAT) to catch up with the early morning briefing. After this meeting, you will be assigned into random groups of eight and allocated random mountain gorilla groups to trek. You will then proceed to the forest to search for gorillas. The trek might last for two to eight hours depending on how long you take to locate the gorillas. You have an hour around these primates. After this activity, you will return to the park headquarters for your respective gorilla trekking certificates and transfer to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will head for a breathtaking experience at Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village.

Day 9: Golden Monkey Tracking and Departure

This day you head for another briefing meeting and head to trek the golden monkeys of Rwanda. After this activity, you will transfer to Kigali, carry out a brief city tour and get transferred to the airport for drop off.
