Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport

Depending on what time you arrive, you will be received by our tour guide, introduced to Rwanda with a brief city tour and after transferred to your accommodation place for an overnight. You will be transferred early enough so that you have enough time to kill off your fatigue.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Close to noon, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park in the northern province of Rwanda. The drive is approximately 2 hours by road. When your reach, you will visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo and after transfer to your accommodation facility of an overnight.

Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trekking & Ibyi’Wacu Cultural Visit

Wake up early morning and head to the ORTPN offices for registration and briefing. After this briefing, you will be assigned to random groups of 8 and after head to the jungles to search for gorillas. The activity can last up to 8 hours inclusive of a full hour encounter with the gorillas. If lucky, your trek can last as short as 2 hours.

In the afternoon, you will head for a cultural experience at Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village then transfer to your accommodation facility after for an overnight.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking and Dian Fossey Grave visit

This morning you have another experience with the primates except that you trek golden monkeys. You will set off early morning and locate these primates before they rise, spend time with them (about 1 hour) and return to the starting point after.

In the afternoon you visit Dian Fossey’s grave, a lady who was very instrumental in the conservation of mountain gorillas. Immediately after visiting Dian Fossey’s grave, you will transfer to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi.

Drive Time: Approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes

Day 5: Whole day at Lake Kivu

Rise to an early breakfast meal and carry out a boat trip to the famous coffee growing island on Lake Kivu. You will learn so much about coffee planting here and also get to get clear views of Mount Nyiragongo – the world’s deadliest active volcano mountain that last erupted in 2002. This mountain is part of the 8 Virunga Volcanoes.

After this boat ride, you will return to Gisenyi and proceed with a short escapade around the towns of Kibuye and Gisenyi visiting a few land marks and places.

Day 6: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Set off for Nyungwe Forest National Park very early in the morning. This forest is the largest montane rain forest in East Africa. It has a high concentration of primates and mostly chimpanzees. You will arrive late in the afternoon or early evening.

Drive Time: 6 hours

Day 7: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk

This day you head to the forests very early in the morning to locate the chimps before they wake up. Chimps move at a very high pace when awake and locating them might be hard. It is best to locate them while still sleeping at spend time with them before they get on the move.

In the afternoon you head for a canopy walk. This experience can only be experienced here in the whole of East Africa. You will get a bird’s eye view of the forest at a high elevation.

Day 8: Transfer to Kigali City

Immediately after breakfast, you will get on your way back to Kigali City with brief stopovers at the Botanical Gardens and the Butare cultural museum, a foundation that was donated by the Belgium government in 1989. You will go ahead and visit the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former Monarch in Nyanza before climaxing your drive to Kigali City arriving late in the evening.

Day 9: Transfer to Akagera National Park

Transfer to a safari park with one of the best eco-systems in East Africa. Akagera National Park is home to Rwanda’s big five game animals. If lucky, you will see all of them.

In the afternoon, you will head for a boat ride on Lake Ihema where you will see water animals like Crocodiles, Hippopotamuses and more. So many birds wander around this lake too, not forgetting the thirsty mammals that roam around the shores to quench their thirst.

Drive Time: 2 Hours

Day 10: Full day game drive at Akagera National Park

This day we carry out a full day game drive to the various regions of Akagera National Park. In the morning, you will drive to the northern part of the park for an exceptional wildlife viewing experience. Here you will see Buffaloes, Elephants, Antelopes plus so many more species of wildlife. You will also drive through the Mutumba Hill, an area that is very rich in wildlife. Retreat from this activity and return to the lodge.

Day 11: Transfer to Kigali for a city tour

Have an early morning game drive as you exit Akagera National Park driving to Kigali City. When you reach Kigali, you will have a city tour where you will visit famous monuments like the Genocide Memorial Monuments, Caplaki Crafts Village, have lunch at the Kigali Conventional Center and after transfer to your accommodation facility.

Day 12: Departure
